Dong-hwan Kim is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Forest Science at the Seoul National University, Korea. With 12 years of experience living in Indonesia and witnessing the reality of tropical deforestation firsthand, he is highly involved in the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation Plus (REDD+) initiative to mitigate climate change. He participated in research projects to promote the Korean forest carbon scheme, and to prepare a project document for a bilateral REDD+ project between the governments of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, under the supervision of professor Seong-il Kim. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Forest Environmental Science from Seoul National University. He is currently a project coordinator for the climate team, where he examines existing REDD+ contract documents to help design effective international climate cooperation.
