Richard May

Richard is currently the Chief of Staff at the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA). Richard joined NZTA in May 2018 and has served as Senior Manager Government and Deputy General Manager Engagement and Partnerships. He was appointed as Chief of Staff in August 2021, and works closely with the NZTA Board, Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team to guide the strategic priorities and partnerships of NZTA.

Before joining NZTA, Richard built up extensive experience in the New Zealand Parliament, spending 12 years in various roles including as a Senior Ministerial Advisor to the Minister of Transport and Defence and as Chief of Staff to a Government support partner. Richard is also a Director of Auckland Transport and a Trustee of Northland Primary School.
